Q&A with Bek Halliday

@bekhalliday

We recently caught up with the gorgeous Bek Halliday who is known for her refined, minimalist approach to interior styling, with a focus on natural textures, neutral palettes, and family-friendly living. Based in Australia, she has built a loyal following by showcasing beautiful, calm, and considered spaces that blend functionality with aesthetic warmth.

How would you describe your interior style in three words?

Calming, light and airy.

What’s one small touch that instantly makes a space feel like home to you?

Adding natural light or through the soft glow of lamps.

Has your approach to decorating evolved over the years or with different life stages like becoming a parent or moving house?

Yes definitely. I feel like I have found my groove and feel comfortable with my decorative style now. It has definitely evolved, I am more selective and don’t deep dive into trends.

What’s one room or corner in your home that always brings you joy?

My bedroom. (When it’s tidy!) It gets the most beautiful natural light in there, it makes me feel calm and grounded.

How do you balance practicality with style when it comes to home décor?

We have house rules in place for the kids like no eating on the sofa or the rugs and shoes off at the door. They are just used to it now and it helps them appreciate the value of having nice things in their home.

What textures or materials do you naturally gravitate toward when decorating a space?

Natural linens, light timber, soft greens and blues and grey marble elements.

Rugs are often the finishing touch—how do you decide on the right one for a room?

As our current home is quite small, I like to opt for subtle patterns in soft tones so that the rug doesn’t ‘take over’ the space but rather, just blends into it adding another layer.

What’s your go-to tip for layering rugs or adding coziness underfoot?

A low pile plush rug always adds a cozy feel.

We love how you styled your Rug! What drew you to that particular piece?

The soft, subtle tones especially and the easy to maintain low pile is perfect for our busy family and pets. It’s held up especially well.

How does your rug tie into your overall home style or mood?

I love how calming this rug is with it’s subtle pattern and soft hues. I think it brings in a soft, California coastal feel which I adore.

Where do you get most of your home styling inspiration from travel, nature, Pinterest, or somewhere else?

Pinterest, travel destinations and nature definitely. I am constantly gathering images and saving them for inspiration. I also love being outside in nature which is probably why I gravitate to natural and coastal tones.

What advice would you give someone wanting to refresh their space on a budget?

Paint the room white. A freshly painted room makes it feel fresh and new. And add a new rug! Those two things can really transform a space.
